Executive team

Group Executive Team

The Group Executive Team is a panel of directors who provide strategic direction and operational council for the Group.

The Executive Team members have experience in a range of different industries. These include: law, publishing, the airline industry, retail and digital consultancy. The wide scope of their experience brings a rich knowledge base to the Group.

The Executive Team works to achieve targets and objectives aligned to the Group’s purpose: to enable people and organisations to develop their skills for personal and economic growth.

The Executive Team members also have a deep commitment to the Group’s values – imagination, integrity and leadership. They ensure that strategic decisions are made with these values in mind.

Headed by the Group CEO, the Executive Team covers many key business functions, including: strategy, finance, mergers and acquisitions, legal and HR.

Chris Jones

Chief Executive Officer

As CEO, and as head of the Group Executive Team, Chris' role is to set the strategic direction of the Group.

He plays a prominent role in driving the national and international skills agenda – something he has personal experience in, as he followed the vocational education path himself.

Since joining in 2008, he has led the City & Guilds Group through a period of significant growth, which has enabled further investment in the organisation.

Andy Moss

Andy Moss

Group Director of Strategy & Global Business Services

Andy is responsible for shaping the long term strategy of the Group, ensuring the organisation maximises its impact over the coming years.

He also leads the Group's technology capability (spanning group-wide digital product technology and business applications), and global business service activities.

David Miller

David Miller

Director of Legal and Secretary to the Institute

David Miller is the Director of Legal and Secretary to the Institute. He also serves as the Data Protection Officer for the City & Guilds Group.

Jim Cornybeare-Cross

Chief Financial Officer

As CFO, Jim Conybeare-Cross is responsible for the financial management of the Group. 

His primary role is ensuring business decisions are financially sound and also providing insight and analysis to shape strategy.

John Yates

John Yates

Managing Director, Corporate Learning

John provides strategic oversight and leadership of our Corporate Learning brands Kineo and The Oxford Group. He also manages the Group’s New Venture Fund.

John has extensive experience in education and learning, e-learning, learning technologies and digital product development. He has held a range of roles across the Group, including CEO of our Joint Venture in Bangalore, India, and Group Director, ILM.

Previous companies: Pearson, McGraw-Hill, Oxford University Press, Cengage Learning. Also worked for the training company BPP.

Relevant qualifications: John Yates has an undergraduate degree, but firmly believes in the equal value of equivalent vocational qualifications and real work experience.

Kirstie Donnelly

Kirstie Donnelly MBE

Managing Director, Skills Credentialing

Kirstie Donnelly is responsible for managing our Skills Credentialing brands City & Guilds, ILM and Digitalme.

This includes working across colleges, training providers and a wide variety of stakeholders, as well as leadership and management qualifications and digital credentials.

Kirstie also plays a major role in overseeing the City & Guilds apprenticeships offer. In 2014 she set up the City & Guilds Group's Industry Skills Board, bringing together a range of employers and sectors to inform the development of a quality model for apprenticeship reforms.

Martin Hottass

Martin Hottass

Managing Director, Technical Training

Martin leads our Technical Training brand Gen2 and is responsible for shaping the skills agenda to ensure we deliver the STEM skills and associated training products to meet the UK’s skills requirements.

Prior to taking up his current position Martin had been working for Siemens plc since 2006 and was responsible for the skills agenda at Siemens in the UK and the company’s apprenticeship provision in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Nicky Pattimore

Nicky Pattimore

Group Director, Employee Experience

Nicky leads the strategy across the Group's entire Employee Experience – from communication and engagement, recruitment and job evaluations to collaboration, talent, learning & development, reward & benefits, quality of life and community fit, wellbeing, equality diversity and inclusion, and the workplace itself.

Her focus is to create a dynamic, fresh approach to our people agenda, ensure we delivery an employee experience internally which aligns with our purpose and external customer experience.

Phil Ellaway

Philip Ellaway

Group Strategy Director

Philip Ellaway works with the Management Board to help strengthen the Group’s impact and reach in the training and skills landscape.

A key focus of his role is growing the Group’s portfolio of commercially successful businesses by partnership and acquisition.
