Making Apprenticeships Work

Objective: The City & Guilds Group convened an Industry Skills Board to help education better-meet the needs of employers. Making Apprenticeships Work was developed to highlight how to deliver a quality apprenticeship experience that meets the needs of employers and young people.

 

Method

Building on recent research from the City & Guilds Group and informed by ongoing discussions with the Industry Skills Board. 

Timeframe

June 2015 – December 2015

Results

 Sets out a 25-point action plan focusing on how to deliver quality apprenticeships including:

  • Calls to increase the proportion of apprenticeships offered as vacancies, supported by a Ucas-style application system for would-be apprentices.
  • Recommendations for an employer-led governing body for apprenticeships, sitting separately from the Government.
