Long-listed for a Business in the Community Outstanding Employment Award

At the Group we're all about helping people get in to a job, develop on the job and get in to the next job - so removing barriers that people face in employment is something that is at the centre of what we do.

BITC Outstanding Employment Award

With employment rates reaching a record high in recent months, and yet there are still 1.4 million unemployed people in the UK, a third of whom have been out of work for over a year - Unipart sponsored the Outstanding Employment Award to recognise businesses who are removing barriers to getting people in to work.

In our award submission we highlighted the work of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy, which has allowed us to help more than 32,000 young people over the last 18 months through our youth engagement and emerging talent initiatives. We've also granted 126 bursaries to people in financial hardship who have often been homeless, have disabilities or have suffered from mental health. We know our bursary programme is truly changing people's lives, and in the video below bursary recipient James Coranaro talks about how being awarded a bursary changed his life and prospects. By completing a qualification, as a result of our bursary programme, James removed the qualification barriers facing him when he was searching for jobs which allowed him to get back in to work and provide for his family.

Speaking about our award entry, Business in The Community said: 'The City & Guilds Group’s approach to removing barriers to employment is 'outstanding because of its scope'. The EDI strategy doesn't focus on just one cohort but seeks to widen the participation of those furthest from the jobs market, impacting specifically on the long-term unemployed, ex-offenders, people with disabilities, ex-military personnel and young people who are not in employment, education or training.'

It's a great for us to have made the Long-list, among so many other fantastic organisations - an achievement we can all be really proud of.
